Stretch Film Pricing for December

NEWSWIRE SNIPPETS Polyethylene trading was above average. The overall market was mostly steady, availability for certain grades like LLDPE film were tight and led to higher prices. Domestic demand is being offset by better exports leading to what some analysts are calling a Santa Claus rally for year end. PVC prices set to rise in 2014 on higher ethylene prices, export demand. U.S. prices for polyvinyl chloride (PVC) are set to rise by five cents per pound in the first two months of 2014. This is a significant price increase in a market that will see producers end the year with a net five-cent increase in their 2013 margins, according to Reports. FOODSERVICE DISTRIBUTION CONSOLIDATION Sysco and US Foods announced an agreement to merge. The total enterprise value of the transaction is approximately $8.2 billion and the combination has been approved by the Board of Directors of each company. Plastic Strapping and Steel Strapping

Image
PET Polyester Strapping - Did you know? That cost considerations are not the only reason to move from steel to plastic PET strapping? Polyester strapping holds certain loads together better than steel. Just apply it with enough tension, and if the load settles, polyester will shrink with the load. When steel bands appear to be loose on pallets, it’s likely because the load has settled. Polyester strapping solves this problem.

Just a quick update on the state of the resin marketplace and what to expect in the coming 30 to 60 days as it relates to stretch film pricing and all things made with PE resins. In short, it appears prices for November will remain flat as we head into December. There is an outside chance we could see a penny or two slide in November, but more likely this will wait until December. Just in time for the holidays. See below excerpt from this weeks The Plastics Exchange article: There was very little movement in spot Polyethylene prices during this past week. While PE resins in general are adequately supplied, specific grades are sometimes hard to source. Although technically there is a price increase out there, rolled over from October, suppliers are not pursuing it and fresh railcar offers were seen at basically the same levels as the past several weeks. Processors are set on earning some price relief before the end of the year, but time is starting to run thin. Traders and

QUICK TIP FROM Quick Pak Strapping PAC Battery Powered Tools are a great alternative to manual tools of any kind. Key benefits are: • Total consistency in application, no matter who the operator is. You can’t get them wrong. • Eliminate repetitive motion injuries. The tool provides the “muscle” not the operator. • Save the cost of manual seals. • Seal joints are 30% greater than with manual seals. You can save money on the strap by downsizing the strap, because you have upgraded the “weakest link” in the strap system. • Make recycling easier by eliminating seals. At the receiving end you are just recycling plastic, no contaminants. A Quick instructional video is at: http://quickpakinc.com/videos.html

Coreless Stretch Film

Why Coreless Stretch Film? Advantages of Coreless The main advantages of HYBRiD Plus 3 Coreless Film innovation to the end user can be summarized as: • Reduced weight of the product when hand wrapping • Reduced weight and volume of the product for shipping • Reduced environmental costs due to removal of cores • Reduced storage space due to smaller product and packaging • No loss of performance • Reduced storage costs, no need to store cores • Reduce transport costs. • Standard rolls can be used in many formats. HYBRiD Plus Coreless rolls will replace the current consumable products already in the market place. This in itself should be a good thing as HYBRiD Plus Coreless has significant environmental advantages in not using cardboard or plastic cores and so removing the costs and environmental problems of waste disposal The new HYBRiD Plus 3 Coreless process – which cuts out the need for a cardboard core in the centre of every roll of film – will be a major su

How can HYBRiD Plus 3 Coreless Stretch Film from Quick Pak Inc help you accomplish your sustainability objectives? Even though stretch film may not be a popular packaging material in some circles, as a lifelong packaging pro, I can confidently say that there are some things that HYBRiD Plus stretch wrap can do at a lower cost and with minimal carbon footprint, compared to other packaging options. When evaluating and comparing different packaging products, we consider material cost, labor cost, waste produced by weight and volume. In most of those comparisons, HYBRiD Plus 3 Coreless stretch film ends up being the best available packaging option when compared to adhesives, tapes, steel strapping or plastic banding options that can all create their own sourcing, application or disposal issues. Making Stretch Film Use as “Green” as Possible? Basically there are three things you can do to make your stretch film usage as environmentally friendly and as low cost as poss

Wide Web Stretch Film from quick pak inc

Wide Web Pallet Stretch Wrap The term “wide web” refers to pallet stretch film larger than 20 inches wide. Many companies choose to use wide web stretch wrap for a variety of reasons. Some are wrapping large objects that require a tall pallet loads. The wide web stretch film enables users to wrap tall pallets with less revolutions and time. This helps to save on both energy costs and film costs. Other users wrap average sized products and pallet loads with the wide stretch wrap rolls to save on film costs and energy costs. Even though the pallet loads are average sizes, the wide stretch wrap rolls enable the less revolutions and time. A 40 inch machine stretch roll requires half of the revolutions and time to wrap a pallet load compared to a 20″ stretch wrap roll. All of our wide web stretch rolls are in stock and can ship same or next day. Ordering full skids of wide rolls are the best option to save on freight costs. One and two roll orders can be expensive because of freight

Stretch Film and Shrink Film

Stretch Film vs. Shrink Film, What’s the Difference? It's a common misconception that people believe stretch film and shrink film are the same thing. It's true that both shrink and stretch films are designed to unitize products onto pallets and both are generally made from polyethylene resins. Shrink films are produced on blown film lines and stretch films can be produced on either blown or cast... film lines. Outside of those similarities, the two packaging systems don’t have a lot of other common characteristics. Shrink films contain a high percentage of low density polyethylene (LDPE), which is the same type of resin used to make bread bags and newspaper overwrap sleeves. When fabricated under very specific parameters, LDPE gives shrink film its "shrink". The stress or tension required to make the film contract is frozen in during the fabrication process. To activate shrink film, a heat source is required such as a heat tunnel, heat gun, or torch. When suff

Sigma Stretch Film Increase Notice

Please see attached letter from Dow Chemical Company. This increase is in addition to the previously announced $.05 cpp scheduled for September 1, 2013. It's important to note that this does NOT mean an increase has gone through yet, nor does it mean that either the September $.05 or October $.05 are guaranteed to be implemented. This is typical of the resin manufacturers today. So what does this really mean? That's a very hard question to answer with any level of certainty, but here's my opinion. With respect to domestic (NA) PE pricing, the market has seen an increase the past couple weeks of between $.02 and $.03 cpp on the spot market. This tells us the 'non-contract' processors are paying more because of anticipated tightness in the weeks ahead. Obviously the situation in Syria and Egypt play a part in supply / demand issues on the global market and this will impact pricing domestically and a lot depends on what happens in the weeks ahead. Pricing in Nort

This shortage has resulted in a substantial increase in resin costs, and has negatively impacted our cost structure for the last 60 days. The cumulative effects of the increase are such that we are forced to increase prices. We will continue to monitor the factors that impact resin prices, and react as quickly as possible to these changing conditions. Our commitment to keeping you competitive in your marketplace remains steadfast. Your PAC territory manager will work with you and your sales team to assist you in your efforts to build market share. New price sheets will be available prior to the institution of the increase. Thank you for your continued support and loyalty.

CDI Resin Pricing News

August 2013 CDI is estimating that HDPE, LLDPE, and LDPE will be flat for August. PP is up $.05 already as a market settlement. As usual, the LLDPE, LDPE, and HDPE number is CDI’s estimate and has yet to be confirmed with the resin suppliers who still have increase nomination on the table for August. Interestingly the report talks about rising global oil prices, and improving seasonal global and domestic PE demand. These factors will work against any resin price decreases the market seemed to have thought were coming in the near future.

Stretch Wrap Increases

Stretch Film Cost Increases Getting You Down? Sept 1st All major stretch film manufactures will pass on a 6-7% increase. This is due to rising feed stock costs and improving market demand. Increases are always an issue, as they stretch your packaging budget. The question is, what can you do? •Easiest thing to do is buy ahead. If you are dealing with a true supplier partner, they will educat...e you when these increases are coming, so you can plan accordingly. This is a wise short term fix. •Go out and get quotes. You will find professional “quoters” that live by the motto “me too less 5”. Meaning they will offer a comparable product 5% cheaper. The problem here is that you are not building a relationship, and this will also be a short term fix. •The best idea is ,instead of squeezing your supplier’s price, try squeezing their intellectual output. View your sales rep as a packaging consultant and a partner in your business. They can bring new ideas that will not only help you

Sigma Stretch Price Increase

To Valued Distributors: Please see attached resin increase letters from Dow, Chevron and Exxon announcing a .05# increase for September 1, 2013.  This increase is in addition to the $.04 cpp already announced for August 1st.  In total, the resin guys have two increases on the table moving into our busiest season of the year.  I'm not sure what's going to happen here, but feel confident the market is not going any lower.  My feeling is that you should take a good look at your current inventory positions and have a conversation with some of your strategic end users and bring in enough inventory to cover the next 60 days. Sigma Stretch Film has added additional capacity in our Pre Stretch/ ECO product lines in 2013, but we all know that 3rd & 4th quarters are extremely high demand months for this product.  I would strongly recommend getting your customers to order this product ASAP because know one wants to deal with 8-10 week lead times, so why not take care of your cust

Amtopp color stretch film

Dear Amtopp Distributor Please be advised that following our production run of color stretch films in the coming week we are going to have to raise our up-charge on blue and black stretch film by $.03/lb moving forward.  We have run with an up-charge of $.10/lb on color films for many years now but due to rising costs over this extended period of time as well as production restraints on color concentrate we must make this move on the price of black and blue films. Please contact us if you have any questions. That being said we are also pushing back the upcoming color production run by one more week so that you can make adjustments to your orders and any orders placed prior to this Friday the 16 th will be at the current price level. After Friday color film will be at $.13/lb up-charge.  Again if you have any specific questions or concerns please call us on them.  This does not affect any other products in our offering. Thank you.
