Polyethylene prices edged a penny higher when January rolled in. Strong exports helped producers eliminate excess inventories and the New Year began tightly supplied. While the flow of fresh railcars has yet to show, we expect them to be priced up the full $.05/lb increase nominated for January. At least one producer has already floated another $.04/lb increase for February, others will likely follow suit.

"LLDPE Producers are doing their best to keep PE prices flat in April while processors are looking for a $.02/lb decrease." "The Ethylene market again saw heightened activity as several crackers remained offline for maintenance.
