How to Prevent Rust with VCI Packaging

Image
As a company selling metal products, one of the last things you need is to find that rust has begun to damage their surfaces. The next stage is corrosion, which can have serious consequences for the quality of the products. If you want to prevent rust, you will need powerful rust-prevention packaging. If you’ve ever seen the effects of rust and corrosion, you’ll know they can cause frustrating problems. However, there are plenty of packaging solutions that can keep those metal surfaces in an excellent state. Check the range of recommended volatile corrosion inhibitor solutions below to prevent corrosion. VCI paper sheets are excellent rust-prevention solutions. They feature vapor corrosion inhibitors combined with kraft paper with a neutral ph. This packaging material works for ferrous and non-ferrous metals, and the hard work of cutting the sheets to size has been done for you. You wrap the VCI paper sheets around each metal part or product before placing them in enclosed sh...

Using VCI Packaging

Image
Rust and corrosion can be expensive, challenging problems for businesses that ship metal parts or products. Once corrosion sets in, metal surfaces not only lose their shiny, pristine look, but they also lose their structural integrity and can weaken significantly. Why is Rust Prevention Packaging Important?   Rust prevention packaging is important for a couple of reasons. Simply put, it is a rust mitigator. It minimizes the chances of moisture or humidity entering the packaging and causing rust on your metal components or products.   In doing so, this packaging supports the product’s aesthetic look and quality. It enhances customer satisfaction and ensures corrosion does not lead to expensive repair requirements. You now know that metal products often require VCI packaging to remain rust-free. It is also the case that several industries frequently need VCI packaging and use them extensively. Here are three examples of industries that use this solution. Electronics...

What is VCI Film

Image
VCI stands for Volatile or Vapor Corrosion Inhibitors.   VCI film is packaging that consists of polyethylene film that has been impregnated with chemical formulations that are unique to each manufacturer. While the underlying formulations can vary significantly, the finished products function similarly in that they release very low concentrations (typically in parts per ten-thousandth) of invisible corrosion inhibiting vapors into the surrounding air. The vapor molecules subsequently condense onto exposed metal surfaces and form a molecular corrosion shield that can protect against rust and other forms of corrosion for many years. Typical service life is up to three (3) years and even longer in some cases. When the VCI packaging is later removed, all vapor corrosion inhibiting molecules rapidly evaporate. This leaves the metal parts clean and ready for immediate use. Protection:   Moisture is metal’s biggest enemy. When temperatures or humidity levels change, unprot...

What is VCI Packaging?

Image
VCI stands for volatile corrosion inhibitor. VCIs are substances that slowly release an anti-corrosion compound into a sealed air space, protecting exposed metal surfaces.  VCI packaging, or anti-corrosion packaging, are packaging materials that can protect metal products during storage, handling and shipping and help prevent them from corroding. Types of VCI Packaging: VCI Bags:   The most popular VCI packaging product, VCI bags are made from polythene coated in chemical compounds that prevent corrosion.   For smaller applications, like packing tools, screws or small machine parts, volatile corrosion inhibitor grip seal bags are a good choice. If you need a volatile corrosion inhibitor bag for larger applications, you can opt for large lining bags for boxes, crates, and pallet boxes. VCI Paper:   Another popular anti-corrosive packaging product is VCI kraft paper. This rust inhibiting paper is supplied on a roll and one side of the paper is coated in VCI chemi...
