Is your Machine Film being Stretched!
Here at Quick Pak Inc, we see this all the time. If a
stretch wrapper is not actually “stretching” the film to its full potential,
you are throwing money out the window. In addition, increasing the stretch of
the film will increase the containment force. A load wrapped with a machine which is not
stretching the film properly is much more prone to shipping damage. Many
companies don’t take these factors into account. They think that as long as
their machines are working, they are working properly.
We recently got a
call from a customer who has large distribution centers in many states and is
wrapping 2500 pallets per day. Their corporate office had noticed a trend that
a distribution center in one state was spending much more in film costs per
year than their other locations, even though they all used the same machines
and the same film. These machines are meant to stretch the film at 250%.
the Quick Pak team arrived we quickly found that some of their machines were
working properly, stretching the film to 250%, while others were stretching the
film significantly less due to mechanical failures in the film carriage. Using
state of the art testing technology we were able to determine that these faulty
machines were costing this customer about $600 per day in added film cost. We
quickly worked to resolve the issues with the film carriage and this location
is now exceeding their film cost benchmark.
If you don’t know how
much your machines are stretching the film or how much you are paying per load,
give us a call. We can perform a machine audit and provide a report on your
machine performance, film cost, and recommend solutions to bring your costs
down. A small investment in testing
could save you a lot!
Quick Pak Inc provides you with the option of choosing
between single and double-wall cardboard construction.
Single Wall is the most common corrugation material - it
simply consists of 1 layer of whatever flute type you choose. Under normal
circumstances, single wall construction will be sufficient as they are offered
from 23ECT to 44ECT.
Double Wall construction, also known as 'heavy duty' corrugation
material is used for heavy or large objects. A Double wall consists of 2 layers
of flutes, usually 1 layer of B and 1 layer of C. They are around 35% stronger
than the regular single wall corrugation type. Quick Pak Inc offers double wall
cardboard boxes from 44ECT to 61 ECT.
B Flute: 42 -50 1/8" = Good cushioning, stacking &
C Flute: 39-43 11/64" = Good stacking, strength &
E Flute: 94 1/16" = Greatest crush resistance &
BC Flute: Double Wall = Very Thick Can hold very large &
Corrugated Flutes are the S shaped waves/arches of a
corrugated box that makes up the board. This is called the boards corrugation.
Flutes are essentially the reinforcement that make up the board. They run
parallel to the depth of the container and give it its rigidity and
crushing/stacking strength. As well as providing stacking strength, flutes also
provide insulation that protects products from sudden temperature changes.
Generally speaking, larger flutes like A & B profile
provide greater strength and cushioning, while smaller flute profiles like D
& E provide better printability and foldability.
B flutes have 42-50 flutes per foot and are 1/8″ thick. They
provide the second highest arch size.
B flutes provide good stacking strength and crushing
resistance. Ideally used for canned goods and displays.
C flutes have 39-43 flutes per foot and are 11/64″ thick.
They are the medium between A flute and B flute and are very common.
C flutes provide good cushioning, stacking and…
