Common Strapping Machine Problems
Strapping machines are essential for securing pallets,
cartons, and heavy loads using solutions like plastic strapping and steel
strapping. Malfunctions can disrupt packaging operations, delay shipments, and
increase costs. Understanding the real impact of each problem helps maintain
efficiency and protect products.
Machine Refuses to Start: Machine that won’t power on stops production
instantly, affecting operations.
The fix: Check power cords, fuses, and emergency stop
switches. Replace damaged wiring, reset breakers, and ensure stable voltage
supply.
Strap Fails to Feed Properly: When straps don’t
feed, bundles remain incomplete, slowing the packaging line.
The fix: Clean guide rollers and feeding wheels,
realign rollers, and replace worn feed wheels.
Cutting Blade Malfunctions: Straps that won’t cut and
leaves jagged ends.
The fix: Check blade sharpness and alignment, then
sharpen or replace the blade.
Straps Are Too Loose: Loose straps allow loads to
shift during transit, reducing the effectiveness of the strap.
The fix: Adjust tension knobs or replace faulty
tension springs to maintain secure bundles.
Weak or Overheated Seals: Seals that fail compromise
load security even when using other protective solutions.
The fix: Clean heater plates, recalibrate temperature
settings, and ensure sealing elements are maintained.
Strap Unwinds from the Reel: Uncontrolled straps can
jam the machine and waste strap.
The fix: Re-thread straps correctly, tighten or
replace reel brakes, and ensure the correct threading path.
Not every issue should be handled in-house. If your
strapping machine repeatedly jams, fails to seal properly, or shows electrical
faults, it’s time to bring in certified technicians.
