Is there a difference between Smooth or Embossed Polyester Strapping?

Image
When it comes to polyester strapping, a question we're repeatedly asked is what’s the difference between smooth or embossed strapping? PET strapping differences are more than just width, length, thickness, and finish smooth or embossed. But what it all really comes down to is the chemical makeup of the strapping, the quality of resins, machine used, the production process and additives used. So, when we're focusing on smooth and embossed strapping, there actually aren't that many differences - in fact, when most people have had a bad experience with smooth or embossed strapping, the thing they are actually comparing about the strapping types is the composition of it. Embossed strapping is just strapping that has had an embossed roller rolled over it towards the end of the production cycle and had a nice pattern applied to it, that’s it. Now that we know the main differences between smooth and embossed strapping is the chemical makeup, production method and additives...

What Is Stretch Hooding?

Image
Stretch hooding is a packaging method commonly used to secure and protect palletized goods. It involves using a stretchable plastic film, known as stretch hood film, which is applied over a load of goods on a pallet. The stretch hood is typically made of linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) and is designed to fit snugly over all 5 sides of the pallet load (leaving no open top side), providing stability and protection during handling and transportation. Stretch hood film is a popular choice across many different industries because it provides strong, resilient packaging that adapts to different load shapes and sizes, enhancing protection and stability throughout the supply chain. Why Use Stretch Hood Film? There are several advantages of using stretch hood film for your packaging needs, including: Improved Load Stability: The tension in the film holds the goods firmly in place, reducing the risk of damage during transit. Highly Durable: Due to its ability to stretch...

Clear, Form-Fitting Packaging. It’s not all the same.

Image
When you open a package, the first thing that comes to mind is probably not what type of packaging it’s in. However, when you’re looking to start packaging your own products, it’s important to know the difference. There are four main types of clear, form-fitting packaging used today: Blister Packaging, Vacuum Packaging, Shrink Wrapping, and Skin Packaging. Today we’ll see the positives and drawbacks of each type–and what kind of products are a good fit. Blister Packaging: We all know this one. Blister packaging is a hard plastic shell put over a product and sealed to a substrate. It is used in a wide range of products from pharmaceuticals to children’s toys. The main appeal of blister packaging among the three is its compartmental style. Pre-formed molds make it easy to dose in the case of pills or parts kits, and it also helps protect products from being crushed during transit. This is why blister is often used for over-the-counter drugs, toys, and electronics. Compared to shrink and ...

Blown Film Makes the Best Opaque Pallet Stretch Wrap

Image
Using black opaque film either by hand or on a machine, we feel blown film has the true opaque black needed to cover the pallet in one go around the pallet. Cast black film is more of a tint and requires more times around the pallet to make it opaque. Cast is great option if noise is an issue (wrapping near offices), as it is almost silent coming off the roll. Black Opaque Blown Stretch Wrap can help with supply chain security by acting as tamper-evident packaging. For example, using Black film will prevent people from seeing what products are wrapped in the pallet. Many pharmaceutical companies use this process. Opaque stretch wrap is also less common and harder to come by than standard stretch film. This means that thieves or other parties with ill intentions will have a harder time re-wrapping pallets accurately after stealing from or otherwise tampering with them. As a result, tampering is more immediately obvious, which allows you to act quickly to catch the guilty part...

Vegetable and Produce Packaging

Image
Keep Your Vegetables Fresh with the Right Packaging: Today, fresh produce must travel long distances from farms to consumers. Recent studies have found that this distance can be up to 1,500 miles. The farther food must travel, the more its freshness declines, and the more nutrients are lost. That’s why it’s so important to use the right vegetable packaging, as it plays a crucial role in preserving nutritional value. Technical Advancements Improve Nutritional Value: The nutritional value of vegetables can degrade due to various factors such as exposure to air, moisture, and temperature changes. The right packaging materials mitigate these issues by creating a controlled environment that slows down the degradation process. Recent technological advancements have introduced materials and methods that significantly enhance the preservation of vegetables. Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP ): MAP is traditionally used to preserve the freshness of produce, meats, and fish by controlling...

Image

However, the initial purchase price is just the beginning of your total cost of ownership. Proper maintenance practices can transform your wrapping equipment from a substantial expense into a profitable long-term asset that delivers exceptional ROI for decades. The hidden costs of poor maintenance include: Product damage: On average, $1 is lost for every $1,000 of product shipped due to ineffective stretch wrapping, potentially costing $12,500 annually for companies shipping $50,000 worth of products daily. Labor inefficiencies: Poorly maintained machines require more operator intervention and slower processing speeds. Film waste: Improperly calibrated machines can increase material consumption by 50% or more. Emergency repairs: Unplanned service calls can cost upwards of $1,000 plus several days to weeks of downtime. Maximizing ROI Through Prevent...

Anti-Slip Pallet Sheets

Image
The smart and cost saving use when handling any product on a pallet. Anti-Slip Kraft Paper, also called Anti-Skid Paper, is preferred in many applications due to its high coefficient of friction. It also has extremely high tear resistance and burst strength. For these reasons, many companies are using this product to provide greater stability when handling pallets, and to reduce product damage caused by product slipping off pallets. Our Anti-Slip Kraft paper is 100% recyclable. This grade of paper offers a much better yield and level of consistency versus other products such as Chipboard or Gypsum Board. It is most used as a pallet liner or tie sheet to stabilize products packed on a pallet. This product can be used manually or with automatic placement or pick-up systems (vacuum pick-up). The Anti-Slip properties can increase pallet angles by 15º to 25º, depending on the application and type of product being stacked. Unlike many alumina and silica nonskid treatments, our An...

Crushed Corrugated Boxes are not a good look.

Image
To guarantee that items arrive at their destination in top condition, implementing effective, crush-resistant packaging strategies is essential. By taking proactive measures and focusing on the following crucial elements, you can protect shipments against various hazards during transit: Choose High-Quality Boxes: The foundation of your shipment dictates its resilience. Avoid thin cardboard without reinforcement. Instead, select materials for boxes that match the shipment's demands. Material: Corrugated fiberboard is superior to basic cardboard due to its layered structure and durability, handling varying levels of weight and pressure effectively. Structure: For heavy or fragile items, choose double-walled or triple-walled boxes, which offer greater durability and stacking strength than single-walled designs. Special Needs: Consider insulated packaging for temperature-sensitive items or water-resistant coatings for items that may encounter adverse weather conditions. St...

Why Use Water Activated Paper Tape?

Image
WAT ( water activated tape ), is a powerful adhesive that bonds to both newly made and recycled fiber surfaces. In packaging, WAT was previously the standard taping method for decades until polyethylene tape (pressure sensitive tape) arrived as an affordable and convenient alternative. That all dramatically changed a few years ago when WAT returned to the market with some new and innovative advantages, noted below. Material Usage -8%: The average amount of tape needed to seal a single carton using WAT was 8% less than using pressure sensitive tape. Tape Integrity: In each environment tested, (room temperature, cold and tropical), cartons sealed with WAT remained intact, preventing tampering. Cartons sealed with pressure sensitive tape were not as secure and could be easily accessed without revealing any signs of tampering. Adhesion Strength: When WAT is removed from cartons, it also removes 80% of the carton’s fibers. Standard pressure sensitive tape can be easily remo...
