Stretch film 101

Stretch Film 101 Stretch film often is confused with heat shrink wrap. Though often confused, there is a big difference between the two. Below is a quick definition of stretch wrap. Stretch Wrap- A highly stretchable plastic film commonly made from Linear low-density polyethylene that is wrapped around items. The elastic recovery keeps the items tightly bound. Stretch film is commonly used to wrap products on pallets and secure them to each other and the pallet. This often helps to reduce products loss, discounrage load tampering, and reduce worker injury. There are a variety of widths, thicknesses, and types of stretch film. Below is a breakdown of the two most commonly used extrusion processes of stretch film. Cast Stretch Wrap- Also called cast stretch wrap, is manufactured using a cast extrusion process. The Cast extrusion process is a continuous process by which a thermoplastic material is melted and extruded through a flat die onto a chill roll, where it is quenched and

Polyethylene Resin Pricing...quickpakinc.com

Polyethylene trading was good, material availability and thus sales continued to improve. After successfully standing down the $.04/lb increase in April, film makers dismiss the likelihood of it taking hold in May. Resin buyers tend to feel that the market peak has passed and there is a chance that some of the $.09/lb implemented in the first quarter will be rescinded. We wait and see. Watch this space. Corrugated Box Increase June 1st 2013.

APRIL 29, 2013 Victory Packaging - Box Increase. On Friday, April 19, Pulp and Paper published a $50 per ton increase in the price of linerboard and medium, the major raw material for boxes. This increase was announced at the beginning of March and pushed through relatively quickly. As a result of the increase in published prices, Victory will be raising prices by 9% on June 1st. We hate increasing prices to our customers. Our job and commitment to you is to reduce your total cost of packaging. That job is much harder when consecutive increases are hitting the market. The timing of this price increase is frustrating as it is on the heels of an increase last fall. Industry consolidation has given significant pricing leverage to the manufacturers of paper. In addition, inventory levels are at historic lows and operating rates remain high. Thus, while demand is only up slightly, supply limitations are driving this increase. Your salesperson will be in touch with you very soo

Resin Pricing News

The spot resin market was a bit slower than anticipated given it was the last full week of the month. Both Polyethylene and Polypropylene prices averaged a penny lower as offers accumulated. Buyers typically maintain a bearish outlook on commodity resin prices through at least the 2nd quarter and often limit their purchases to an as needed basis. We are seeing single railcar customers just pick away at truckloads every week and larger processors procuring fewer railcars as they continue to scale down their resin inventories. Several Polyethylene producers have now pushed off their $.04/lb increase effort until May; Polypropylene contracts settled down a dime earlier in the month. Once again the key US energy markets moved in opposite directions, but this week they reversed course. June Crude Oil Futures jumped $4.73/bbl to end the week at a clean $93/bbl. The market has now recovered more than 50% of the losses resulting from a $12/bbl slump during the first half of April to a sp
