ITW May Sell Industrial Packaging Segment Tue, 02/19/2013 - 1:31pm Jack Keough, Contributing Editor, Industrial Distribution Illinois Tool Works Inc. today announced that it is initiating a review process to explore strategic alternatives for its Industrial Packaging segment. The Industrial Packaging segment designs and manufactures steel, plastic, and paper products used for bundling, shipping, and protecting transported goods. The segment includes such well known brands as Signode, Strapex, Angleboard and Mima among others and had 2012 revenues of approximately $2.4 billion. "As part of the execution of ITW's enterprise strategy and portfolio management initiative, we are starting a process to explore strategic options for our Industrial Packaging segment, which may include a sale or spin-off of the business," said E. Market Update & Summary February 12th, 2013: Polyethylene asking prices moved higher this past week, but when material actually changed hands, prices were mostly steady to just a tad higher. Producers are looking to add to their $.05/lb January gains through the implementation of another $.04/lb increase in Feb, although they are meeting steep resistance from processors. While Generic Prime railcars are available, we have not yet experienced a flat out spot purchase reflecting the full Feb increase. Orders are more often being placed at the up 4 price, with the caveat that the increase will be rebated if it doesn't hold industry-wide. South American and European Polyethylene interest waned as US prices increased; however, International traders are anticipating resurgence in activity after the Chinese New Year.
