STRETCH FILM RESIN TODAY Polyethylene prices were up the first week of July. Producer's resin offers were up a nickel in support of the current price increase, but there is little confidence that the increase will take effect on this third attempt. PE offers were then revised as up $.05/lb, but protected for a rebate in case the increase did not hold. There is still plenty of PE material around. Caveat emptor. This is not a new concept, others have done this for years, but the price tag was always up over $5,000 for the option. We are at $1,650 list price for this option on a semi automatic stretch wrapper. It is manually activated and can be set on or off to run like a regular wrapper. This helps reduce the cost of using netting and/or stretchable netting as they can use a regular stretch film.

Spot resin offers were heavy and prices continued to drop as the second quarter came to a close. For the second week in a row, spot Polyethylene prices fell $.01-.03/lb depending on grade and Polypropylene shed another $.02/lb. Decreases were seen for commodity resin contracts in June; Polyethylene was mostly $.02 - .04/lb lower, although some buyers were pushing for a larger decrease. Polypropylene contracts fell $.15/lb commensurate with the change in June PGP contracts.
