 Avoidable distribution hazards are impacting the products you ship. The best way to ship? Design a unit load for your product. A unit load combines multiple items into a single “unit” that can easily move through the distribution process. Packaging your product as a unit load requires organizing and restraining items to allow shipping as a single mass. Many of the hazards that loom in the shipping process can be avoided simply by using a correctly designed unit load. Here is our list of the most common unit load mistakes. Pallet to Product Size:   The footprint of your unit load should match the footprint of the pallet to avoid extra costs and unnecessary damage. If your product has excessive overhang, the product is at risk of damage because it is not fully supported. On the other side, if the product does not fill the footprint of the pallet, you are paying for more space than necessary. Airflow vented stretch film has die-cut holes through the film, increasing airflow, preventing condensation, and allowing the temperature of the package to be more easily regulated. These properties make vented film ideal for cold and frozen products, including food, produce, and pharmaceutical products. Vented films can also be used in cases in which moisture may be present while wrapping and could potentially damage the load. For example, vented stretch film is often used for bundling firewood to allow moisture to escape and air to flow rather than collecting mold and potentially damaging the product. The term “wide web” refers to pallet stretch film wider than 30 inches. Many companies choose to use wide web stretch wrap for a variety of reasons. Some are wrapping large objects that require a wider than thirty-inch stretch film.  Wide web stretch film enables users to wrap tall pallets and carts with less revolutions and time. This helps to save on both energy costs and film costs.
