Dear Valued Customer,

Due to rising feedstock costs, improving global market demand, and low inventories, our resin suppliers have informed us of their intentions to implement a previously announced resin increase of $.06/lb. effective February 1st. In addition to this February increase, our suppliers have also announced another increase of $.07/lb. for March 1st which we will monitor and address at a later date.

In response to the February 1st resin increase, all new orders received on or after February 27th will be priced at a 7% increase. All orders must call for immediate delivery and shipment on or before March 30, 2012. Based on current lead-times and shortness of resin supply, Sigma Stretch Film can only accept a limited number of new orders. Sigma Stretch Film reserves the right to accept or decline all orders for any reason. Please check with your local plant location.

Orders placed at current prices will be limited to less than one month of your normal purchase levels. Pricing for orders accepted is based upon local lead-times and available resin.

We understand the stress and difficulty associated with these increases. However, the resin suppliers seem to have multiple increase attempts pending, regardless of market place dynamics. We cannot speculate on the strength or weakness of these announcements. That leaves us with no choice but to announce a corresponding film increase. To not announce now will only cause rushed implementation later with foreshortened lead times and limited availability of some items. Please rest assured that our primary focus has always been and will remain to supply and service our customers at a competitive price.

Chevron Phillips March 1, 2012 RE Price Increase Effective March 1, 2012, Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP will increase the price of all polyethylene products by seven ($0.07) cents per pound. This increase is in addition to all previously announced price increases.

Dear ExxonMobil Chemical Polyethylene Customer: In addition to the previous $0.06/lb. price increase implemented in January 2012, ExxonMobil Chemical Co. is announcing the following polyethylene price increases effective with all shipments on or after March 1, 2012.

Producers and processors continue to spar regarding the January price increase. Producers remain intent to maintain the $.06/lb increase that they have billed for Jan. Buyers however, see spot sales at prices less than the current increase market observers have indicated the market steady to $.03/lb higher. If producers do not get their increase in Jan, they will go for it again in Feb.

A fourth consecutive month of scaled-back Polyethylene production, actually to the lowest since Feb 2009, has helped producers liquidate about 500 million pounds of inventory. Polyethylene market firmed; supplies are tighter and prices jumped $.02/lb.
A fourth consecutive month of scaled-back Polyethylene production, actually to the lowest since Feb 2009, has helped producers liquidate about 500 million pounds of inventory since they peaked in July. For the first time in a year, upstream PE inventories have dipped below 3 billion pounds. Houston traders have also reduced inventory.

Global LDPE Industry - Facing Strong Competition from LLDPE

Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) is the first grade of polyethylene developed in 1935. It has a density in the range of 0.910 g/cc to 0.940 g/cc, resulting in low tensile strength and increased ductility. LDPE also has high levels of clarity compared to other plastics such as High Density Polyethylene (HDPE), Linear Low Density Polyethylene (LLDPE) and Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC).
This makes it preferable for use as film applications in food packaging, which requires high transparency and moderate strength.

The major sectors that consume LDPE are packaging, construction and automotive, accounting for 80% of the global LDPE demand in 2010. LLDPE is gradually replacing LDPE in many applications due to its lower cost and higher strength but LDPE is still used widely in extrusion coating because of its ease of processing.
Demand for LDPE is growing at a slow pace with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 2.5% in the period 2000-2010.
The growth of LDPE demand can be attributed solely to the Chinese market which is the largest consumer of LDPE
and accounted for 32% of the demand in 2010.

Market Update & Summary Now 2nd, 2011:

Polyethylene prices were generally steady to $.01/lb firmer and have now recovered $.01 -.02/lb from earlier lows. Some market strength was seen this past week when producers took a firm stand at $.03/lb, resisting the call by processors to lower October Polyethylene contracts by $.05/lb. To further support their position, producers reiterated their intent to implement a $.05/lb price increase in November (attempt #7) and a further $.06c/lb in December.

October CDI down 5 c/lb as expected. There are several reason why PE resin sales orders and production levels in October and November are expected to be well below those in September. First, weaker economic activity both here and with our trading partners is drying up PE resin demand. Second, there is a seasonal soft period for PE resin that has been experienced for many years now. It is possibly the industry seeing an early jump on this fourth quarter seasonal demand softness that is typical for the industry. Next, China is seeing resin demand implode as a a result of their own softer domestic economic activity and the inability to export during the upcoming fourth quarter holiday season. .

NWD Stretch Wrap Dispenser and HYBRiD Plus Film by quick pak inc

Here we have a 40" x 48" x 65" high pallet, which weights 1500 Lbs. We wrapped this pallet using the NWD stretch wrap dispenser. Note the operator is always walking forward and never bends to wrap the bottom of the pallet.

As you can see in the video the product is securely locked to the wood pallet with the stretch film. At the end of the video you can see the operator pull the film away from the pallet and hear the snap-back (high force to load = pallet wrapped tight).

This pallet was wrapped under a min using the HYBRiD Plus stretch Film (13" x 2000'). Note the speed of the wrapping and the coverage.

What is it?

Stretch wrap is commonly made of linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE). It arrives at your dock in a fairly clean condition and if kept that way it has a real market value. Stretch wrap may well be the most valuable recyclable material in your warehouse/distribution center.

Why recycle stretch wrap?
Stretch wrap is one of the largest components of a warehouse/distribution center’s waste stream. Those who don’t recycle it pay to have it hauled away. This could mean thousands of pounds of stretch wrap per year which translates into dollars saved or dollars spent.

The Economics of Stretch Wrap Recycling
By removing stretch wrap from the waste stream, you will reduce the number of pulls therefore; saving money. First, there is the cost of hauling trash to the disposal site. This a fixed cost that you are aware of and can easily place in your formula for savings.

Here is you first opportunity to recover stretch wrap and is an important checkpoint. If stretch wrap is stripped from pallets in receiving, it should be immediately placed in the Revolution Minipak Baler.
Employees who are assembling outgoing pallets may be breaking down pallets loads and stripping stretch wrap. Since this may take place throughout your facility it is important to have the Revolution Minipak Baler in those areas where most of this activity occurs.

Baling the Stretch Wrap
To lower the costs of storage and transportation, stretch wrap should be baled.

Your employees hold the key to the success of your stretch wrap recycling program. Make sure they understand the importance of their contribution.

A. Emphasize their role in helping your company achieve important environmental goals

B. Underscore that tape and paper labels are serious contaminants and must be removed.

As you probably know, the chemical (resin) manufacturers have two increases on the table as we speak and have had for the past couple months. I would expect to see the rest of the industry follow with similar letters in the coming day(s). Lead times are very reasonable now, but inventories levels across the entire channel are low and it won't take much to push them out. Look at your inventory positions and be thinking about what you might need.

Polyethylene trading improved while prices were steady to lower. After back-to-back decreases in June/July, it seemed that PE producers might finally have luck implementing their $.05/lb price increase on the 4th attempt. However, current demand is proving too soft, perhaps because buyers bought into the notion of the increase and purchased almost 150 million lbs more resin in July than the previous two month average. Maybe the fifth time will do the trick in September…or they should just try for a smaller increase, like $.03/lb.

Prices for Polyethylene will settle steady in August as PE buyers resist yet another attempt to implement the nickel increase. The markets will likely remain relatively stable until something new comes along to provide direction, but there is potential to the upside, considering that the season's first hurricane could make landfall in the coming days, but away from the gulf.

Conveyorized 2 Station Automatic Stretch Wrapping Solution

The Flex CTS eliminates the need for an operator to attach & cut the stretch film AND eliminates time-loss from forklift drives “watching” loads being wrapped. Simply place the pallet-load on the infeed conveyor via forklift, and pull a lanyard switch while backing away. The machine will advance the load into the wrapping zone automatically, freeing the loading zone to receive another load. The machine will wrap the load as you have pre-determined it to do, automatically adapting to the load size and shape. (Within machine specifications)

The film is pre-stretched (elongated) at 260% which “processes” the stretch film for maximum linear strength and load retention, while reducing material cost. Domestic spot Polyethylene prices were steady to lower, although notable gains were seen in the previously sharply-discounted export market. Continued recovery in the Indian and Asian regions cleared a good deal of surplus inventories. Latin American buyers are turning back to North American suppliers for added material as competitive offers from aforementioned regions have dwindled. While domestic PE railcar offerings were somewhat limited.
