Latest news on U.S. prestretched film producers leadtime issues

Compiled from trade sources July 2013

A quick update on the status of our pre-stretched products as we enter the fall season. Our busiest time of the year for this product category.

Lead times are 3 weeks or better for all pre-stretched products and we are building inventory on some items.

U.S. STRETCH FILM PRODUCER July 2013

Pre-stretched products are in high demand in the fall and lead times will go out regardless of our new capacity. Combine this with a price increase and order rates go through the roof and lead times come under assault.

U.S. STRETCH FILM PRODUCER July 2013

Effective August 1st we will begin enforcing monthly pre-stretched sales controls. Your purchases of pre-stretched will be held to your normal monthly sales during the past 12 months. I encourage you to place your pre-stretched orders before the end of the month so you don't get caught short due to monthly limits.

U.S. STRETCH FILM PRODUCER July 2013

Expect the next move for pricing will be up, not down. It's too early to tell if this will happen in August, but I would expect something in the next 60 days, especially if crude oil prices and resin exports continue to move higher.

Sigma Stretch Film: Just a quick update on the status of our pre-stretch products as we enter the fall season. Our busiest time of the year for this product category.

Lead times are 3 weeks or better for all pre-stretch products and we are building inventory on some items. This is a far cry from 7 months ago when we hit 6, 8, and up to 9 weeks on some orders.

"Here we grow again" is a statement we are looking forward to in Kentucky as we are expanding our pre-stretch capacity once again. This new line will be up and running in the next 60 days ... just in time for the fall. Although that's great news, I want to emphasis the importance of planning early and looking at your inventory levels now. Pre-stretch products are in high demand in the fall and lead times will go out regardless of our new capacity. Combine this with a price increase and order rates go through the roof and lead times come under assault. We will handle things a bit different this year to prevent the type of lead times we experienced last year.

Effective August 1st we will begin enforcing our monthly pre-stretch sales controls we implemented last winter. In other words, your purchases of pre-stretch will be held to your normal monthly sales during the past 12 months. I encourage you to look at your historical sales history for your customers and place your pre-stretch orders before the end of the month so you don't get caught short due to monthly limits. In other words, start August 1st with a full tank of gas, so your monthly sales history is enough to carry you through the fall season. Any pre-stretch orders placed before the end of the month will not count against your sales control number starting August 1st. Start planning now.

Finally, I expect the next move for pricing will be up, not down. It's too early to tell if this will happen in August, but I would expect something in the next 60 days, especially if crude oil prices and resin exports continue to move higher.

Have a great week and don't hesitate to call me if you have any questions. Thanks for your continued support and business.

HYBRiD Plus 3 Coreless Stretch Film

*Remove

*Reduce

*Recycle

We have developed a unique system that reduces cost and waste by winding stretch film rolls without a cardboard core. This unique and innovative technology removes the core.

How do you Reduce waste? STOP it from coming into your business in the first place.

Every pallet you use of HYBRiD Plus 3 Coreless – your company will remove this volume:

192 cores - 48 corrugated boxes – 4 corner protectors – 4 rolls of packaging tape

-Complete elimination of cores removes the costs of disposal.

-Very light rolls for fast and easy wrapping.

-Highest load holding force, ensures better load protection in transit.

-Reduction in film weight can exceed 50%.

-Reinforced roll edges for a better and faster pallet wrapping.

The lightness of the roll and the absence of any core make this film a MUST to use.

”QuickFix Dispenser®” = no ”burning hands” anymore.

Market Update & Summary July 9 th, 2013

I'm receiving numerous calls every day regarding pricing and what to expect down the road so I thought a quick update on that topic may be of interest. I've attached the most recent copy of The Plastics Exchange newsletter for your reference and reading enjoyment. Because it's published weekly, it's usually spot on and gives you a good feel for current market conditions. In short, the resin manufacturers continue to push their $.04 cpp resin price increase that's been on the table for the past couple months. Processors continue to push back and look for some relief in pricing. Although pricing appeared ripe for a couple cent per pound decrease in May and again in June, unplanned outages and supply issues put a damper on those expectations.

As you will read below, July demand for PE resin has been slow and supply tight. There are no clear indicators pointing the direction either way for pricing. It's a 50/50 split which way it will go in the near term. Whatever happens, it appears it will be small movements. I hope this is helpful.

Thank you for your continued business and support.
